Ingredients and steps
Ingredients are listed first and adjusted for the number of people eating that day, with guests added and anyone away left out. You can check them off as you use them. Then, you’ll see each step one at a time, such as “Step 3 of 7”, with Next step and Previous step at the bottom. If a recipe has different sections, like “Dough” or “Filling”, those names appear as headings. The steps are numbered in order across all parts. For your table
The table tonight appears below the title. Anyone getting something different tonight has a pill there, with a line under their name. The recipe stays the same for everyone. Each tip is shown under its step. On the left, there’s a circle to check off, followed by the person’s name and the instruction, such as “Take the portion out before the salt”.An arrow on the right explains the reason for the tip. Check the circle when you’ve finished the task.If a step has three or more tips, All done appears below them. When needed, the label shows Safety or Allergy, and the edge changes colour. Texture advice shows only the name. The examples here are from a Wednesday at the Solbergs’, when Emma’s sister brings Nora, who is eight months old. Anything not tied to a specific step, such as breastfeeding before the meal, is listed in the Before you begin card before step 1. Steps you’re not on yet only show a count, like “Nora: 2 things”.For babies under one, Bryti creates the portion based on advice from Helsedirektoratet and Mattilsynet, sometimes with even stricter rules. This means no salt or salty foods, such as cheese or tinned food, and no honey.Spinach and other nitrate-rich vegetables are also avoided. Dairy comes in only from about ten months, and the texture must match the baby’s age.If salt is added in the first step, the baby’s portion is cooked separately, for example: “Boil Nora’s share of the potatoes separately in unsalted water”.Older children get a note when sources mention something for their age group, such as advice about rice cakes for kids under six.If stock is added later, the baby’s portion continues cooking in water instead. The step will say, “Cook Nora’s share on in water instead of the stock”.A portion removed before adding salt can still be flavoured, for example: “Season Nora’s portion with a little dill instead of salt”. Bryti only suggests mild herbs already used in the dish.Tips created by Bryti are only given to children over one year old. For children under three, these tips are only about texture. Some advice is softer, such as “Only a little rice for Nora – not every day, because of the arsenic” for children under six. Raw onion or cabbage gets a note in the dish’s own words, like “Fry the onion well for Nora’s share”.Once a week, Bryti reminds you to introduce new foods in small amounts at first.NoteSome dinners can’t give the baby a safe portion, like honey-glazed chicken or a soup where the stock goes in at the start. The line says so, and suggests a frozen baby portion instead.
If the dinner the day before is suitable for the baby, Bryti suggests saving a little extra for the freezer. If you do, tap Put in the freezer under the advice, and the portion is added to your freezer in the pantry. On days without a portion, the app shows what should be in the freezer and removes one after dinner is made.NoteSometimes every rule can be followed but too little is left, like the pizza base on its own. Then the line says “What is left is not a meal”.
Even then, there may be something in the dinner Nora can have. Her line names one food, such as “The chicken can be mashed and given beside the thawed portion.” Bryti only picks food that hasn’t had salt. If the salt goes in later, the line tells you to take a little out for her first. The chat uses the same lines. If you ask, “Which days is there no dinner for Nora?”, Bryti tells you the days and suggests a frozen portion.Tap a person in The table tonight to group their softer tips into a count under the step. Tips about safety or allergies always stay visible.Tapping the The table tonight heading opens a sheet showing everyone at the table and each tip with its reason. The circles work the same as in the steps.Show advice on texture and breastfeeding is turned on by default in Bryti’s settings. If you turn it off, the table won’t show anything about texture or breastfeeding.NoteSafety advice only on a person’s card does the same for just that person. Safety and allergy advice always shows and can’t be turned off anywhere.
Worth knowingLines marked Tip from Bryti are seasoning ideas based on what you have in your cupboard, for example, for someone who likes chilli. Tips never change the recipe or the shopping list. Tune the seasoning to you is on by default in Bryti’s settings, but you can turn it off.
Timers
- When a step includes a time, such as “simmer for 12 min”, the time appears as a button. Tap it to start the timer. You can run several timers at once.
- Touch and hold a timer to name it, or tap it to return to its step.
- Your phone will ring when the timer ends. On iPhone, timers also appear on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. On Android, the phone asks once for permission to ring on time.
NoteIf notifications are off for Bryti, the step shows Notifications are off with a link to your phone’s settings. That way the timer won’t count down in silence.
Tips you used
Below each tip, you’ll see Used. Mark the tips you actually used. At the end, Bryti will ask if you want to save them as your own version, such as “Fish soup, our variant”.Save the variant keeps the original recipe unchanged and doesn’t add anything to the shopping list. Not now saves the tips for next time. When the food is ready
Dinner's ready is the final step. If the dinner was planned for that day, it’s marked as made, and later the week asks once how it went.If you cook something from your cookbook that isn’t planned for a day, nothing is recorded.Go to Week
